Drupal Facebook Modules Part 2

Drupal Facebook Modules Part 2

A Development article written by Elle Meech

This week's Drupal Facebook modules blog will be taking a look at two more features that can ensure a simple yet advanced connection between your website and your Facebook page. The great thing about these modules is not only are they open source (and free), they are often available within one complete module. This time around we'll be taking a closer look at the follow button, comments feature and the like box. Each of these modules have their own unique features to allow users to fully interact with your website, using their Facebook.

Follow Button

The follow button simply allows people to follow your public updates on Facebook if you have a Facebook account. There is not much to this tool except the obvious, getting users to follow you using their Facebook page allowing their friends to see you driving more users to your site.

Comments Feature

The Facebook comments box module allows users to comment on sections of your site using their Facebook login. Comments can be ordered by relevance or the time they were posted, spam comments can be marked and deleted.

Users can link the comment they make to their news feed allowing their friends to view the comments and allow your site to reach a larger range of users. The comments can be made either in Facebook or your website and remain linked, no matter where the origin.

There are several features of the comments box including grammar filters (e.g plz turns into please), blacklisting words, comment using Hotmail, Yahoo! or AOL and moderation tools. Moderation tools allow you to limit content and moderate comments.

Like Box

Much the same as the ‘Like’ button, the like box shows how many users and which users have liked your website page. The like box displays the pictures of the most recent users to like your content. It can also display recent activity from your Facebook account.

Relevance of Such Modules

It is the time of social media, and although Facebook is not always the right choice for all businesses, it can be a great way to interact with the general public. The follow button and like box can be the best ways to utilise Facebook's ability to reach large audiences in a short amount of time. However, the comments box is completely different, in that it is an avenue for people to express their opinion on sections of your website such as blogs or news articles. It is always a pretty good idea to take advantage of any form of exposure for your business if it suits your needs.
